AMS @ Portland

"The last few years, Tri-City and Spokane have come into our rink and gave it to us," said Mucha, who is slated to start tonight. "Tri is always a hard-working team. They gave us our only loss and (today) will be a hard game. It seems every year they have a top NHL pick in net, until now. Drew (Owsley) didn't play a lot last year and we will have to try and take advantage, but he is no pushover."

Owsley has started every game this season for the Americans and is off to a good start with a 2.48 GAA and a .910 save percentage.

"It's always hard when good players, well-established players, graduate," Hiller said. "When (Carey) Price left people wondered what would happen. Chet (Pickard) came in and a wrote a pretty good story for himself. So far, Drew has done that." (Herald)

Also this bit:

Alex Pechurski still is a no-show in the Americans locker room. The Russian goalie has completed -- and passed -- his interview with Homeland Security and now is in the process of trying to get a release from his Russian team.

"It's on their time table," said Americans general manager Bob Tory. "If they don't grant the release, he can't come. He wants to come, and we are hoping they will allow him to come."

Now I'm getting pissed. I know it's also the cough medicine, but still. Drew has obviously done well, we don't need no stinking From Russia With Glove. And if he does come, he should not automatically get #1 job. I do not think Drew (or Marty for that matter) should be tossed aside just because Alex shows up. That's bullshit. Those two did enough sitting when Chet played a bazillion games, already stunting their development.

Moving on....AMS in Portland to take on the Winterhawks tonight, you know what that means? LIVEBLOG! A couple of the regular participants will be at the game, but that's alright, come on in and say hi, everyone welcome :) Click here for streaming radio feed.

The goalie from Russia should be an instant upgrade over what is here now. People will have to deal with it. This isn't little league. It's not this kids fault he's not being allowed to leave in a timely fashion. Him wanting to be here is a good sign.

an upgrade over a 2.48 GAA and .910 sv% ? wow. If there wasn't this other goalie potentially waiting in the wings, I can't imagine many people would be that upset with those stats.

Drew has done a good job so far this year, no doubt. Would you rather the Ams just flush this euro pick down the toilet and play with only one again this year? The Pens see something in him to use a 4th rounder.

Let him come in if he can and compete for the job. That's all. Play the best guy. I think that's what you were saying anyways, so I guess we agree. Good job!

Personally, I don't think it's wise to pick Russians in the import draft because of the hassle of dealing with the KHL. Obviously, it's taking a huge risk, one that Bob felt ok doing.

Pens drafted him, but haven't signed him, he didn't even go to their camps. Another eyebrow raiser for me personally.

Yes, it seems we do agree on playing the best guy. I just disagreed with your choice of word "upgrade". :)

If FRWG ends up making over, great. If not, great.

But if the Ams chose to keep Drew and Marty after the past season, especially after making them near-permanent fixtures in the seats instead of playing them or at least dressing down, then they need to work with them.

Obviously, Drew is doing his thing and it's working; it's working well. Marty could do the same, but for whatever reasons, he's not out there much at all (he blew one game and it was all over... WTF). If FRWG gets all his shit cleared and makes it over, lets give him a chance for sure. However, I think we've got two goalies perfectly capable of doing the job. Anyone who scoffs at Drew's stats needs to reconsider.

God forbid Drew or Marty don't go out channeling Price and Pickard during the first games of the season. Are you kidding me? Let's not shit ourselves people: they spent copious amounts of time in suits last season. Yes, I'm aware that this isn't Little League, but for goodness sake, this is JUNIOR hockey! Emphasis on the "junior." This caliber of hockey is about development, so let's develop what we've got because they CAN do it and they ARE doing it.

So in conclusion... Sure, it's fan-fucking-tastic that FRWG was a 5th round draft pick by the Pens and we were lucky enough to get dibs on him, but I'm not gonna get my g-string all up in a knot because he *might* make it over here and grace us with an "instant upgrade." Fuck that noise.

If none-of-the-above made sense, forgive me; Nyquil is brutal.
