Vacation

It's gonna be sparse around here, but should have some content up later tonight or tomorrow. I'm spending the week with family. :)

WAIT, WHAT THE FUCK?? (yes, this does require the F-bomb)

19 years old Alexander Pechursky decided to report in North America as he's
going to play for the Tri-City Americans of the Western Hockey League, according
to allhockey.ru. Pechursky has been drafted by the US team in this spring's
Import Draft with the 55th overall pick. (Russian Hockey Fans via Drinnan)

Um, whut? He's "decided to report"? Can Bob say no? If Bob can't/won't say no, I'm guessing Marty will be re-assigned. Screw you stupid Russian. I'm so mad right now.

more later.

Say no? Yeah right. As much as I love Drew and don't want the Russian here (on our team) I picture Bob on his hands and knees begging for him to come just the way he had talked about him before and during the season.

It would be retarded to fuck with the team's chemistry now. Don't fuck it up, Bob.

(That's the concise version.)

I think that Mr. Tory has been trying to make this happen all along. Drew Owesley is still the go to guy, I don't think that changes. He could use time off and I don't think there is much confidence toward Marty as the backup. If Pechursky is capable of being a number one goalie, how does having two high caliber goalies hurt. It would give Owseley needed rest and would certainly help toward the playoffs. If Pechursky is a wash, then there is nothing lost. That may seem cold blooded toward Marty, but unfortunately this is a business and they want to win. He won't report until after the WJC so a lot can still happen. I am going to wait and see how this unfolds. It could be adding a missing piece of the puzzle without trading the very bright future this team has looking at Moser, Holland, Dow, etc. My two cents.

@Lietrim- I agree, it never hurts to make a team better. The only thing that sucks is that Marty has never been given a true opportunity and was just sittin there while Russian goalie deal was in the works. The way that the organization had talked so highly of Perchursky made it seem as though he had the starting spot over Drew before he even arrived (and yet he never did show up). Maybe we're all overreacting but I just hope that if he's going to take the top spot away from Drew that he certainly earn it.

Lietrim December 21, 2009 2:15 PM

@Mikaela - I could no agree more. He has to earn it. It does suck for Marty. I never lose sight of the fact that they are all still kids.

I don't think this is a bad move. It sucks for Marty, no doubt, but with the blowout losses we've had, we really need someone capable of filling in when Drew is off his game or just needs a break.

I think the way Olstad's situation was handled was much worse.

Only the skaters can bring the team back from blowout losses. By the time the starting goalie needs a break, it seems to be impossible to recover the game anyway. We have two great goalies and we don't need another one. I know they're sticking with the hot hand but I wish Marty had more starts.

I'm on the fence about this. I guess I'm not all that upset if Drew stays in the #1 position as long as he's earning it. I like Marty and I think he's getting screwed by not getting any ice time and in turn not developing. So I would like to see him go somewhere he could actually play.

It's also possible that they are using Pechursky in a trade.

Wow, were these original, thought-provoking comments or what?

First a question: Is he going to play for Team Russia at the WJC? Did he get an Oylimpic Trial Invite?

Without having that knowledge, I'm up in the air on it. When a team makes a change in team dynamics, it's usually better if it's an all or nothing change. A goalie can be the heart and soul of a team, but at the same time he's just one person. He has to build a whole new web of friendships and accquaintences that takes time to build. So I would have a better time deciding if you could show me both a skill level and a commradery (sp?) level to back up what this team is doing this year.

"Dave Schultz" December 22, 2009 12:28 PM

Sister's right, the blowout losses are not all on goaltending. Yes, Drew is tired. Yes, he deserves a break every now and then. Yes, Marty's getting screwed with no playing time or a chance to prove himself. Yes, it never hurts to improve the team.

All that being said, From Russia With Glove better be sitting on the bench as long as Drew keeps playing as well as he has been.

@Spokant--I can hope you're right that he'll be used for a trade, but unlikely with the boner Bob's had for him.

I think it was Caldwell at Small Thoughts at Large that said there's no way he'll be riding the bench if he's good enough to go to WJC (though he hasn't been playing to the best of my knowledge) but Drew's too good to all the sudden relegate to back up. It's bullshit.

I BELIEVE IN DREW OWSLEY.

normalooking December 22, 2009 2:35 PM

I BELIEVE IN DREW AND MARTY.

We don't need no steenking rusty Russian (assuming he's leaving the paycheck in order to get more ice time). The end.

JeffM December 24, 2009 8:49 PM

I have to admit, reading your blog may be the biggest bunch of bullshit around. First you probably should be turned into the police for being a sexual predator. My ovaries ache? Are you fucking kidding me? These are fucking kids and if you aren't one, I suggest a boat load of therapy. Secondly, you use the handle Dave Schultz, who is in the ring of honor in Philly, this blog belongs in the toilet bowl ring. Lastly, if you knew anything about hockey, you would know why Pechursky was brought in. What if someone like Letts runs Owsley? What happens then? I'll tell you, we're fucked! Same thing that happened with Pickard, Owsley and Marty weren't able to handle the load. The Americans had a losing record while Pickard was gone. The Russian is a insurance policy. Marty has had a year and a half to prove himself, and he is probably a good kid, but if he were any good, he would have played. Merry Fucking Christmas!
