Player recap--Brendan Shinnimin
What an amazing season Shinnimin had. Leading scorer on the team in the regular season with 82 points (27G 55A), and adding 25 points in the playoffs (8G 17A). Certainly made the world aware it's his draft year and he's serious.
Shinny is a kid who likes to win, you can just tell (which of them doesn't want to win though, c'mon). There were times when they were down or during the rough spring stretch when he was trying to do everything himself. The motivation behind doing that I totally understand, but it's not really the solution in a team game. That being said, he has a work ethic that is tremendous and a drive and passion for the game that is obvious in his play.
The second half of the season wasn't as productive for Shinnimin, mostly because other teams figured out that he was a threat and were able to shut him down. The streakiness of linemate Hughesman didn't help either. There were some adjustments to linemates as the rough stretch in February/March wore on, but Brendan continued to work his tail off.
Shinnimin isn't the biggest guy out there, but he makes up for it with grit and tenacity. He's not afraid to get physical, fight if he needs to. If you watch just him for several shifts you'll notice he's not shy about shit-talking the opposition either, I imagine he's just a pest to play against--and that's a good thing.
As for Brendan's Look-Alike, have to go with the teenage Corey Haim:
I think I had that Teen Beat picture on my wall, I freakin' loved The Lost Boys.
