Import Report
According to the Herald:
Arriving late to this year's camp will be goaltender Alexander Pechurskiy and defenseman Nikita Kardashev.
Pechurskiy and Kardashev, one of two of the Americans' first round CHL Import draft picks this year, are tentatively scheduled to arrive on Sept. 5. (Herald)
According to Drinnan:
The Tri-City Americans have three import players on their main training camp roster, but none of them will be there when camp opens at the Toyota Center in Kennewick, Wash., on Sunday. . . . Russian G Alex Pechurskiy, 20, and Belarusian D Nikita Kardashev, who turns 18 on Sept. 25, are due to arrive around Sept. 5 once visa issues are cleared up. Russian D Nikita Nesterov is also tangled up in the visa process and doesn’t yet have a reporting date. . . . Kardashev and Nesterov were selected in the CHL’s 2010 import draft. (Taking Note)
And according to wikipedia (ass-pat to Wazz), Sergei Drozd is on the roster for the Shakhtar Soligorsk.

From what the Post-Gazette is reporting here in Pittsburgh, Pechurskiy's been released for play in North America again, only he doesn't really have anywhere to go...kinda makes me feel bad for him. I mean, I was under the impression that Metallurg wanted him back. Next thing I know, his number's off their roster on their website and all kinds of rumors are flying around that he'll be playing in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton or Wheeling...unlikely, considering that Wheeling already has their positions filled and there are already 4 goalies competing for 2 spots on the WBS roster. And, like you said, it doesn't make sense to put a 20-year-old import in the backup slot. Would I like to see him with the Ams next season? Yes; in an odd sort of way, it's convenient because I'm familiar with the team and I'll be up watching the Coyotes play, anyway, so I know I can tune into the broadcast. Do I think he should? Probably not. But I hope he finds somewhere to play nonetheless, poor kid. I'll keep my ear to the ground out here, but that's going to get a lot harder because I'm moving back to school on Sunday, so I actually have to study and practice and all that good college stuff... =]
oooOOOoo super appreciative of the Pittsburgh side of things, thanks for the update from that side of the US :)
He'll end up somewhere, for sure. He's good enough. And not just cuz I'm biased, I just don't see keeping him as good for my team's future =/
Haha, no problem. I guess I'm good for something, after all! Oh, and don't forget, you're always welcome to kidnap him and ship him to me - I LOVE getting things in the mail! Well, besides bills, that is...it'll be a welcome distraction. =]
The goalie of the future for the AMs is Eric Comrie who is a year too young to be the backup this season, but who WILL be the backup on the roster next season.
Anyone we would bring in to backup Drew would only do so for one season, and then lose the job to Comrie the next season. Why go through that? Go with Alex and Drew sharing time again this year. Next year, Alex will be too old and be gone, just in time for Eric Comrie to come in and backup Drew for his last season. The year after that, Comrie starts as a 17 year old. The kid can do it, he IS that good!
"Why go through that?"
Why not? If Dreidger (or another goalie in camp) is good enough, why not use him for a year? Why use a two-spot for Alex when there's 2 other imports who could be very beneficial to the team?
I'm glad Comrie "IS that good", that's good for the organization. In my opinion, Alex is NOT that good, he's ok, but wildly inconsistent.
no matter what, Bob's got his hands full trying to figure out what to do.
Yeah I guess, but I don't see that being very good for that player to have a spot just for a year, as a backup. Not to have much of a chance to return or to ever win a starting job. Not of course, you NEVER say never and any of those players could end up winning any job. So I understand that. Also, I guess I'm kind of thinking of the player more than the team. But still.
I do feel that Alex was a big asist to the team. He was a MUCH better 2nd goalie than Marty was (though I was a big Marty fan and was sad to see him go). When Drew is in a funk, Alex did quite well filling in for him. I was happy with him as a 2nd choice and would like to see him back myself. Again, this is just my opinion. I'm very behind whatever choice they make though. In Tory I trust. Lol
I love your blog by the way!
no, it probably wouldn't be an ideal situation for a kid to be a backup for only a year, but if the future is Comrie, that year of backup experience would be good to be available for a trade, and he's nicknamed "Trader Bob" for a reason.
I always liked Marty too, but in preseason last year, I thought Dreidger was better than Brett, surprised when he was sent down then, I figured this year would be a big chance for him to prove himself, even if in backup role.
Glad you like the blog :)
