Poll

Neate Sager over at Buzzing the Net has an interesting piece about a discussion going on in the Canadian Hockey League--a "flex" plan for 20-year-olds and imports.  It seems the Moncton is leading the charge as they have four overagers they want to keep.  And yes, I'm aware the term "overager" doesn't make sense as they are 20-year-olds, if they were overage for the league, they'd be 21 or older.  But it's the term that is used the most.
Brandon's Kelly McCrimmon and Moncton's Danny Flynn had their teams in the MasterCard Memorial Cup last season, so it's not surprising both are overstocked with overage candidates.

Neither head coach, though, came off like he was speaking from pure self-interested when he reiterated over the past week the Canadian Hockey League would be well-advised to add an extra spot for a 20-year-old player (going from three to four).(BTN)
The proposed "flex" system would open up that 4th OA spot but only allow one import.  If a team had 2 imports, they would still only be able to keep the 3 20s.  It's an interesting proposal to say the least.

So, my dear readers, what do you think?  Should the Canadian Hockey League (WHL included) go to this "flex" system?  Vote below.

It makes sense because you're going to be more likely to have a domestic overager than an import to deal with. It's far easier for imports to go back home and play in their national leagues or, if drafted, have their NHL team place them somewhere without having to deal with some of rules minor leagues have.

this would have been nice this season to have! that way we could have flexed ted kennedy into the lineup.

My question would be, could you go to the extremes? Could you have 5 imports and 5 OAs?

that would be neat to have an all euro line.

@zcat I think that defeats the purpose of it being a developmental league.

@bloodninja you'll have to go to Europe to see that I think :)
