Shots from the Point
First up, Carter Ashton:
The Tampa Bay Lightning, NHL parent club of the Norfolk Admirals, have reassigned forward Carter Ashton to the Admirals from his junior club, the Tri City Americans of the Western Hockey League, Lightning Vice President and General Manager Steve Yzerman announced today.
Ashton, 20, a 6-foot-3, 215-pound right wing from Winnipeg, Manitoba, is a first-round draft pick of the Lightning (29th overall in 2009). He split this season between Tri City and the Regina Pats, scoring 33 goals and 71 points with 106 penalty minutes in 62 games between the clubs. He also netted 17 power play goals, tying him for fifth place in the WHL.
Ashton added three goals and eight points in ten playoff games with the Americans. In 239 career WHL games between Tri City, Regina and the Lethbridge Hurricanes, Ashton has scored 92 goals and 181 points with 329 penalty minutes.
Ashton also joined the Admirals at the end of last season, recording one goal in his first 11 professional games while only 19 years of age. The Lightning signed to a three-year, entry-level contract on October 2, 2009. (Norfolk Admirals)

Second bit, more from/about Chilliwack. Gregg Drinnan did the gritty work and rounded up a boatload of links, good stuff. You can check it out here. This story gets stranger and stranger. And Darryl Porter says the last 2 months have been the hardest of his life. Is it just me or does that statement remind you of BP's Tony Hayward saying he wanted his life back during oil spill cleanup?

Around the WHL tonight is Round 3 of the playoffs. Kootenay/Medicine Hat and Portland/Spokane. Go Portland, Go Kootenay. That being said, I would like to direct you to Tiger Turf, fan blog for Medicine Hat. For some reason I get a lot of visitors here through them so I can return the favor and put up the linky-poo.

nice people, which I would say are most people, root for the underdogs in the world of sports. That's why most (nice) people want to see the Yankees get beat in baseball. The Winterhawks are like the Yankees of the WHL this year and, I, for one, would like to see them get knocked off by anybody. Are you being bitter and mean-spirited because the Chiefs beat the Ams? I'm surprised to see you acting like the typical narrow-minded Ams fan.
Nice people let others root for whomever they want to.
I'm sorry you find me to be bitter and mean-spirited, I find you to be ridiculous and ignorant because I don't agree with who you are rooting for.
If that makes me narrow-minded so be it. I'm fine with that.
hahahahaaaaaaaaa
Ahhhh then count a helluvalot of us to be narrow minded. I want the hawks to win just because i dont like spokane. And how is portland like the yankees? we've won the last few yrs so that means portland didnt....unlike the Yankees who seem to win ALL THE FUCKING TIME.
Blog spot ate my post! Here’s my second attempt…
@Robin – I see nothing bitter or mean spirited about today’s post. Nothing negative is mentioned about either Spokane or Medicine Hat. DS is CHOOSING to root for Portland and Kootenay. Her choice. Ironically, she’s rooting for Kootenay and pimping a MH blog.
There are a couple of ways to look at the remaining teams. You *could* root for Spokane, hoping that it was the *best* (chocking on that one) team that killed the Ams season. You *could* root for Portland because you want the team that beat the Ams to be out of the playoffs. You *could* have a deep seeded hatred for one or both teams and base your decision on that. You *could* have a favorite player and root for their team. You *could* flip a coin. You *could* pick a team based on the coolness of the mascot, hence, I’m rooting for Kootenay. Tigers are cool and all, but an Abominable Snowman wins. The only better mascot than an Abominable Snowman is Kelowna’s Ogopogo, but they’re not playing anymore, so rooting for them is moot.
I can’t root for Spokane or Portland. I’m jumping ship and only rooting for the Eastern Conference. I disapprove of the dirty play exhibited by both teams left in the West. Portland players pick (alliteration anyone?) too many fights, and I can’t stand the goon tactics constantly on display by Spokane players. I have also come to loathe Spokane fans based on the despicable behavior of the people that have sat behind me far too frequently.
It’s no secret that the general feeling of this blog is against Spokane. Just take a look at the tags along the right hand side. There has been no individual event that caused the dislike; instead years of experience have formed the opinions. If you don’t agree with what DS has to say, don’t read, or respectfully state a differing opinion. As you can see by your comment being approved, dissension is allowed, just don’t pick fights.
Btw, Spokane is the Yankees, and Portland is the Red Sox…you don’t really want to root for either team. Andy says that there are 2 teams worth rooting for: the Mariners, and whoever is playing the Yankees. I don't follow baseball. I just know that rooting for the Yankees is like expecting the gambling house to win.
Winterhawks = Yankees? I thought I misread that at first and had to read that a 2nd time. Too many bullet points to itemize why that equation is not correct...
FWIW I wanted Portland to win the series just out of distaste for the Chiefs....but after calling our Homie a 'typical narrow-minded Ams fine'? I'll rethink.....that sounds like a typical disgruntled Winterhawk fan to me.
