Bantam Draft

I was going to stay out of it and direct errbuddy to Alan Caldwell who is tracking everything, but the Ams tweeted that they drafted Brian Williams out of California.  That's right, there's another Brian Williams who plays hockey in California, and Bob drafted him.

If they both make the team there will be two Brian Williams-es on the team at the same time, both playing forward, only a year apart.  Nuts.

Seriously, go to Small Thoughts at Large for actual names, stats, etc.

Also, nicknames will be needed.  Stat.  And something more creative than Willy One and Willy Two.  B-Dub and B-Will.  I don't know.  Suggestions welcome (maybe not right now, we'll see if they're both on the roster at the same time)

The Brian Williams thing is weird. Really weird. I actually had to look that up after I saw the name again. What is going to be on their jerseys? I pity the refs...

Willy 1 and Willy 2? NO. Wilgosh is Willy.

The Ams drafted 7 of 11 players from the US (CA, AZ, CO, WA <-- yes, it's a hometown boy, Austin Mayton, from Richland!) and 4 players from Alberta.

I think the Winnepeg connection is going to become the California connection: 4 of the 11 players hail from there + Comrie and the first Brian Williams.

Kody Ichinga may have a special place in my heart: I was born in Torrance, CA. His whopping 5'3" stature had better skate fast though. Small Thoughts At Large guys says he is the smallest player in the draft.

The "Victoria WHL Club" drafted a kid from Nebraska. Nebraska! Seriously, do they have ice there? and holy commitment from his parents.

One of the kids is listed at 6'5". That's freaking tall for a might-be-16-year-old! I'm hoping that he knows how to use that size and that some growth spurt didn't completely mess up his back.

A set of twins was drafted. Jake Virtanen (1st pick overall, Calgary) has a twin named Jared that was drafted by Kootenay in the 8th round.

Back to work!

obviously Mason is "Willy". Hockey players are quite unimaginative though--Carey Price and Chet Pickard were CP1 and CP2. BOOOORING. So they'd go with Willy1 and Willy2.
