The Morning After
Holy wow, that was a good game. That was the 60 minute effort we've been waiting for from the Americans. It was night-and-day different than the team that took the ice last Tuesday against Victoria. A few days of practice and knowing they were facing Spokane brought out the best in them all. From the top of the lineup to the bottom it was a great effort and a great game.
- Shinny got 2 goals--I told you it'd come to him, he's to talented to be held off the score sheet for long
- Rimmer was outstanding, he's one of the most animated goalies I've ever seen. My favorite is when he's dancing along to the goal song.
- After a late and slow start, Jordan Messier is doing much better.
- Speaking of Messiers, Marcus has been great all season. He got more ice time last night with the 10-minute misconduct to Shinnimin (WTF was that horseshit?) and he took full advantage of it.
- Huge amounts of ice time for Drydn Dow, especially in the 3rd. He deserved it and he played phenomenal.
- Not as much ice time as I would prefer for my Malte, but I have to keep telling myself he's only 17, he'll get there.
- The Ams went 0-for-7 on the penalty kill. Not good, but not terribly surprising against a stingy team like the Chiefs.
- LOL @ Engel's hissy fit in the 2nd period.
- I love my new camera!
- It's reassuring to know what you're going to get from Mason Wilgosh every shift of every night, which is balls-to-the-wall work ethic. And plowing right through guys. Also blocking shots like a boss.
- Feser and Holland are reliable. That may sound boring, but it's a good thing.
- I'm still loving the acquisition of MacMaster.
- Is it too much to ask to have something, anything, about the game on the Tri-City Herald's website at 9:30 in the morning?? Apparently. I miss Rene Ferran's coverage at the Examiner soooooooo much.

Little Mess has grown leaps and bounds this season. Not to take anything away from him personally, but his improvement says a lot about the Ams' coaching staff. I loved all the ice time he got last night. He may not be racking up a ton of points yet, but he keeps the puck in the attacking zone and plays responsibly.
I haven't seen anything that silly from a goalie since Behbeh Pickard's walrus impersonation. What the hell was that all about? Trying to break a stick? You so crazy, Mac Engel.
On the flip side I, too, love Rimmer's fiestiness (that's not a word). Gotta love a goalie who doesn't take any crap and who is clearly enjoying himself.
It's true the Chiefs are stingy on the PK, but when the Ams had that 5-on-3, Kichton and Baldwin were in the box. Two of their best d-men and the Ams still couldn't score. Frustrating.
Buuuut it's a minor thing when considering the whole game. The guys were playing with confidence and desperation.
Z said Shinny told the linesmen to "fuck off" which is what the misconduct was about. I don't really blame him. That guy was on a freaking power trip. He'd stand there with the puck so long, a false start was inevitable, then kick somebody out of the faceoff. Over and over, usually Shinny. On the other hand, I watched Hughey tell a linesmen "fuck you" twice last season and he didn't get a misconduct. FIVE MINUTE MAJOR FOR BEING BRENDAN SHINNIMIN. Apparently I have a soft spot for mouthy people. Can't imagine why.
The Brendan Shinnimin hat trick; 2 goals and a 10 min. misconduct for verbal abuse.
I've got a T-shirt idea in the vain of Frankie says "Relax". Brendan says "Fuck off"
I laughed at all the posts on here. I love the "you so crazy, mac engel" and the Brendan says "fuck off". I would buy that shirt and wher it till is fell off. I saw Macs hissy and I couldnt figure out what the hell was wrong with him, and if anyone can get Rimmers dancing on vid I'd pay you with a coffee and cinnabon to post it! I did see Rims get pissy and push/punch a couple peeps. Game well played by all and a nice W even from the screen in the hall. (we had our Special Olympics table up behind sec J, but i did get to watch some of the game for realz.)
BTW my spelling was less than stellar on that last post! wher? wear...is? it....argh!
